A lovely message from the very eminent Rob Thompson
05 June 2019
As you know, we were very pleased that the well known and very popular WW1 historian Rob Thompson joined as an Associate of the Butte de Warlencourt. Rob is very supportive of the project, it is great to have him on board. After receiving his Associate membership card and car sticker, we were absolutely delighted to receive the following from Rob (printed with his permission). 'This is just to say how pleased and proud I am to become an Associate Member of the Butte de Warlencourt Association and to lend my support to the preservation of this iconic and important historical Great War landmark, now granted a new lease of life under the stewardship of Bob Paterson. I cannot think of a better, more passionate custodian for the Butte. I look forward to visiting the ‘newly enhanced’ site and contributing whatever I can to enhance public understanding of this Great War landmark. Men from all around the globe fought and died on and around the slopes of this Miniature Gibraltar. It is to these men that we owe a debt of gratitude and the solemn responsibility of maintaining and developing the site for the education and understanding of current and future generations.' Rob Thompson (Military Historian) We are already sweet talking Mr T into a nice article for a newsletter. I thought a piece perhaps the South African brigade but yours truly discovered bits on them last week which might be web worthy when tidied up soon.
